Our Curriculum & Rationale
School Vision and Values
Our curriculum is designed to reflect our School Vision and Values:
From tiny seeds, we grow and learn together.
Our school vision is inspired by the parable of the mustard seed. When planted and nurtured by a loving community, every seed can grow and flourish.
Our school is like the mustard tree; a place where all are valued and belong.
Our children are like tiny seeds; in good soil they can grow as individuals, ready to branch out and be good news in an ever- changing world.
Our loving community of gardeners enable each unique child to flourish, removing barriers, and supporting growth.
Little people can do big things through love, courage and joy.
Our Values are Love, Courage and Joy
Our behaviour principles are Kind hands, Kind Words, Kind Feet.
Curriculum Intent, Implementation and Impact
We define ‘curriculum’ as everything our children experience as they journey through our school, so that they become children who:
- Learn and play with joy
- Approach life and learning with courage, resilience and independence
- Are kind and loving
- Are numerate and literate
- Can express their thoughts and ideas
- Have high self-esteem and are proud of their own strengths and successes
- Have a strong sense of belonging
- Can collaborate with others
- Are good news for their school and wider community
- Recognise how they have grown as a unique individual
We design our curriculum so that it reflects our core values, individual school context and the needs of our children, as well as delivering the statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS) and the National Curriculum. We have made deliberate curriculum choices driven by our curriculum intent.

Team Crookham: Building Our Learning Muscles Together
Reflective Owl, Resourceful Squirrel, Team Ant and Tough Tortoise are unique to Team Crookham!
Based on the Building Learning Power (BLP) approach developed by cognitive scientist Guy Claxon which focuses on ‘learning how to learn’, these animals introduce the learning muscles we want to build and develop as young (and not so young!) learners. Our children are keen to learn and by developing a shared understanding of how to be Owl (reflective), Squirrel (resourceful), Ant (collaborative) and Tortoise (resilient) through daily learning tasks and social interactions, they recognise what great learning looks and feels like. With regular practise and application, our children develop the confidence and independence to tackle any challenge with the growth mindset of a successful learner whilst also gaining a valuable toolkit of skills enabling them to become life-long learners.

An Inclusive Curriculum
Our curriculum is for all pupils regardless of background, identity, experience or circumstance. We value each other as unique individuals and together we belong to the inclusive community that is Team Crookham. We recognise that we may have different needs at different times, perhaps due to a protected characteristic. We aim to ensure that all needs are met by making appropriate reasonable adaptations which lead us all towards living in 'fulness of life'. We explore our learning habits together, whatever our starting point, and do so within a supportive culture.
Additional information on protected characteristics, equality and diversity may be found in our Special Educational Needs (SEND) Policy and our Equalities Information and Objectives.
