Teaching Reading: Our Phonics Scheme

We use SoundsWrite in the teaching of early reading to ensure that all our children develop the efficient decoding and strong comprehension skills that equip them to read for and with enjoyment. You can read more about SoundsWrite at sounds-write.co.uk.

Below there are a few examples of the lessons we teach in school:

  • Word Building The way we teach children to say the sounds and build their word before reading the words

  • Sounds Swap One of our Sounds-Write lessons to support the children's ability to manipulate sounds, using other similar words to help with reading and spelling.

Here is an example of how to support your child with reading.

The powerpoint below is from our Parent Workshop held in September 2023. It explains further our Sounds-Write program.
